Private business, Government Join to Create New Business A partnership between private business and government has resulted in the growth and expansion of another Scottsbluff business. A new 22,400 square foot building, being built on Highway 71 south of the South Beltline Highway in Scottsbluff, will become the home of Aulick Industries in early 1994. Financing for the project is being shared by the Aulick family and the Community Development Block Grant program. Cindy Dickinson, director of community development for the city of Scottsbluff , said the CDBG revolving loan program is providing $223,000 to help the Aulick family develop the 33 acre site. Financing is also being provided by the family through the FirsTier Bank of Scottsbluff. Stew Jobes, business finance specialist for the Nebraska Department of Economic Development, and Ingrid Battershell, director of the Nebraska Business Development Center in Scottsbluff, helped the Aulicks prepare the financial package for the project. This same type of revolving loan program was used to assist Western Valley Packing of Scottsbluff and Lockwood Corp. in Gering, a joint program supported by the city of Scottsbluff and the city of Gering . The program funds, administered by NDED, are repaid directly to communities and reused to encourage other private enterprise projects. The major incentive is that CDBG business development loan rates are about one-half of primary lending rates. The company was established by Harry Aulick in 1952 at a filling station at 20 th and Broadway, where he rebuilt starters and generators in his spare time. The repair business grew, and in 1956 Aulick moved the business to 809 W. Railway. The building there has been expanded four times. Three companies make up Aulick Industries. They are: Aulick Truck & Trailer, a Navistar truck dealer specializing in truck parts, repairs, engine rebuilding, trailer maintenance, Harsh feed mixers, WW livestock trailers, sandblasting and painting. Aulick Manufacturing, which builds agri-truck bodies, 40 foot trailers and miscellaneous other truck-related items for the agricultural market. Aulick Leasing, a trucking company with operations in four states that specializes in road construction for state and federal agencies. The existing structure has 16,000 square feet of space, but Vinc Aulick, president of Original Equipment Corp. and vice president of Aulick Leasing, said future expansion is impossible there. His brother, Shane, is president of Aulick Leasing and vice president of Original Equipment. A sister, Ginger Aulick, is secretary-treasurer and office manager of both corporations. Aulick Industries employs 48 people full time and plans to add eight more when the business relocates to the new facility. It will have 10 truck bays, parts and office areas and a floor-heating system that uses waste-oil broilers to heat water that is circulated through the concrete floor. "With this system, we'll be able to recycle all of the used oil that is gathered in our shop," Vinc Aulick said. Aulick Industries moved into a new, 34,000 square-foot facility in early 1999. The new facility allowed them to expand their services. Their list of services and goods includes painting & sandblasting, structural steel, large capacity metal shearing & press-brake work, all types of welding, new and used trucks, trailer rental & sales, cattle feeding equipment, and other truck-related equipment.
